Second Update,
from Johannesburg SA
Our remaining
time in Ghana was spent at a pastor’s
conference that was held in Aflao. During the conference
we were able
to hear some very moving testimonies from local Christians,
many of whom were born into families worshiping idols and practicing
idolatry. They shared how God had drawn them to Himself and
now they were set free from their bondage.

During
the two days of the conference, Terry Rae, Shadrack Monageng,
and Steve Wheeler were able to teach, minister,
and give helpful advice about church leadership. All
their messages were translated into the Ewe language.

We
were also able to sit, talk and pray with many different
pastors from the Volta region, including all
the
pastors that are supported by White Fields. We learned
a lot from
these
men and became pretty good friends by the end of
the conference!

Moses
Sepenu, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Amor, is
one of the men we were
able to
get to know a little
better. After
being lead to Christ by a close friend over 20 years
ago, Moses decided to become a pastor
just four years ago after feeling a strong calling from
God.
Moses
shared
that
it is
very difficult to witness in the
area of his church, since being a pastor is commonly viewed
as a “shameful job,” that is meant for someone
who has nothing else better to do. Also, while his area
was not as bad in terms of idolatry, many of the people
have grown apathetic to religion as a whole.
Nevertheless,
Moses remains very committed to acting as a Shepherd
for his church, and is very optimistic towards the future
of
church planting in Ghana. He is one of the key leaders
giving oversight to other new churches being planted
in the area.
