Q: Can I
designate my donation to a specific country or pastor?
A: If you choose to make a donation, your support is added to the other
gifts we receive. Our board then divides the donations and sends them
to each country, according to a strategic plan. We do this for 2 reasons:
1.
We determine the salary range for a pastor based on his local economy.
If we give a church planter so much salary that he is compensated
far above his
flock, the church members will never be able to support him. Also, it is
important that the pastor not live above his congregation.
2. Our goal is to develop new church planters each year. Therefore, we
need the flexibility to financially support those countries and communities
that
are ripe
for new church plants. Our decisions are research-based; our desire is
to cultivate prime opportunities to spread the Gospel.
Q: How
can I connect with a pastor if I can’t designate my financial
gifts?
A: Pray! We have “Prayer Facts” for the countries and churches
we support; they will give you the specific needs, struggles and
celebrations about
which you can pray.
Q: How should
I explain White Fields to others?
A: Here is a quick overview of our organization:
• We
have committees around the world who have years of experience in church
planting
and are looking for opportunities to plant new churches.
•
These committees choose local men—believers—who are trained
and ready to plant a church among their own people.
• Once approved, these national church planters are given a locally-appropriate,
full-time salary for one year. We decrease the salary by 25%
each following year, allowing the church to gradually rise up and begin supporting
its own pastor.
•
We usually end the pastor’s financial support in 4 or 5 years,
depending upon the needs of that country. At this point,
in many cases, the church is
able to support a leader from within to go and plant
another church in a nearby neighborhood.
Q:
Do you require donors to make a 4-year commitment?
A: We do
not require any commitment. Your donations are strictly between
you and the Lord.
Q: If donors give
whatever they can, whenever they
want, how do
you develop a budget?
A: We are like any other faith mission. We have a track
record of how much donors tend to give. So we analyze
our records,
pray and trust
the Lord.
We keep a strong
reserve in savings so that if there were an economic
downturn, and giving decreased, we could sustain the
men to whom we
have made a commitment.
Q:
How can I give?
A: Some people send checks; others enjoy the ease of
giving online. You can also fill-out the recurring
giving form available
on
our website and we will
automatically
withdraw the money from your credit card or checking
account. Even if you begin a recurring gifting program,
you may send
notice to
stop the monthly
deductions
at any time.
Q: Do White Fields
national pastors know who the North American supporters are?
A: We have a policy that the church planters are
not to make any contact with North American supporters,
to prevent men
from asking
for more
money. It is a
protection for both the pastor and the supporter.
So
you have anonymity, although the Lord knows of your
gifts!
Q: Are you members
of a financial accountability organization?
A: We are members of Cross
Global Link which is
an organization that works specifically with missionary
agencies and
reviews annual audits.
Q: Are all the
pastors listed on your prayer link supported?
A: Yes. As more donors give, we expand the number
of men we are able to support. In 2007, we increased
the
number
of new church
planters
by 54 over the previous
year because we had grown in the support we received
during 2006.
Q: Do you have
men waiting for support?
A: Yes. Our board makes a commitment to support
our men for their entire term of planting the
church, so we exercise
careful stewardship
to
make sure we have
the resources to support them for the full
four years
until
their church is established.
Q: What is S.T.E.P.?
A: It’s a new training program taking place in the Philippines. It stands
for Supplemental Training in Expository Preaching. It’s
a curriculum to help the men improve their preaching skills.
Through the program, we are
also
providing a library so that they will have the books necessary
to study the Bible and present biblically-grounded sermons
to their congregations.
